Tell HN: Elon Musk Removes Login Prompt for Twitter

3y agoHN ↗

He's doing frontend web development now too? Truly a man of Starkian intellect.

3y agoHN ↗

You mean the thing where Twitter used to constantly nag people to login?

Ok. That’s less user hostile.

But is that really worthy of a discussion?

3y agoHN ↗

The less sites use such dark patterns the better. And a beads up is nice so people like me who avoided clicking twitter links because I couldn’t be bothered with their gated content might give it another shot. Now if reddit does the same it would be great!

3y agoHN ↗

If we have to be objective, that's a positive step. Of course, coming on the whim of a mercurial CEO, he may re-add it tomorrow.

3y agoHN ↗

Someone claimed he'd already removed it a while back, then I saw it again.

Possibly it's just not consistent (and/or broken)?

3y agoHN ↗

Note that if you are using uBlock Origin some lists might actually be the ones removing that login screen

3y agoHN ↗

I hope other social media companies follow suit. As someone who tries to stay off social media as much as possible, I find those login walls really annoying.

On the flip side, they help keep me more fully off of those sites..

3y agoHN ↗

Despite what people say about him; hes doing gods work.

3y agoHN ↗

George Hortz said that was one of the first things he wanted to get rid of so maybe it’s not Elons win.

3y agoHN ↗

Because of course George Hotz decides alone to do that without asking anyone...
