I've read this and it's interesting for its double-take on -topian alternatives. However (SPOILER ALERT) having a computer permanently embedded in your spine/nervous system as the alternative to the panopticon isn't much of a choice. Maybe I'm simply naive/foolish to think that technology is just as easily made a yoke as it is a crutch or handicap.
