It took the Shopify CEO tweet and Astra causing a large move towards Codex for them to finally give in. It's hard to believe it was worth it in the end. On the other hand, most people will forget about this saga in a few months, so sadly it may just have been worth it.
Added AGENTS.md support: in a project with no CLAUDE.md, Claude Code reads AGENTS.md instead; change it under “Project instructions” in /config (not yet on Bedrock, Vertex or Foundry)
Note that this *does not include .agents/skills*. Argh.

Not going to use Twitter without Nitter, so I'll just assume that's good news.
Maybe I can finally delete that useless symlink to the actual AGENTS.md.
"We're adding support for AGENTS.md to Claude Code.
Starting today in version 2.1.277, if there is no CLAUDE.md in a folder, Claude will check for and use AGENTS.md.
You can toggle this behavior in /config."
Finally. Now I can remove all my symlinks. :)
Vendor locks over md file names is crazy
From their changelog:
2.1.277
September 18, 2026
Added AGENTS.md support: in a project with no CLAUDE.md, Claude Code reads AGENTS.md instead; change it under “Project instructions” in /config (not yet on Bedrock, Vertex or Foundry)
Note that this *does not include .agents/skills*. Argh.
That would have been great. Coulda gotten rid of an entire symlink folder structure.
