I've been learning and working in the 3D CAD/BIM space for almost 20 years and one thing that often comes up is the availability of simple assets that are efficiently modelled.
One of the challenges I see a lot is an Architect will need to model a kitchen unit, so they go to BIM Object or another library and download a model. There are two problems this creates; firstly the 3D element itself contains an enormous number or polygons which can cause performance issues, and second the Architect is at risk of over-specifying that particular unit when really they just wanted it as a placeholder.
So I built 3DAssetStudio.com to alleviate some of that, I've been slowly picking through the various different categories of assets that might be needed and ended up with over 500 core types, which have 4,000+ presets, which can be adjusted parametrically into millions of combinations. I used FreeCAD script and then built a compiler, so now I can add new elements quite quickly, and the URL parameters configure the asset, so sharing or bookmarking models is really easy.
I'm not sure what to do next, for now I've set a 20 models/week download limit just in case I find a commercial strategy that works, but it's all open to play around with without signing up.
