It literally just states not trusting a distro's maintainers from not being influenced by the capital behind it. The politics involved is privacy/ads which I feel fall into the content this board usually covers. The author didn't even reference the founder/funder/maintainers associations with the alt-right, purely focusing on if it is maintaining the privacy ethos typically associated with linux. Which is a grace I personally wouldn't afford that community
At this point I'm wary of seeing something from the "bearblog" domain on an HN submission because it always end up being the same thing despite hosting different authors.
I find it curious how quickly the term oligarch has been diminished. The usage in the linked article is so loose as to be meaningless. I can't blame the author too strongly given the default mode for discourse on the internet over the past decade has been tabloid fervour.
The usage of the term oligarchy here seems to somewhat fit the OED definition, which refers to a small group in charge of a government or organization, though IMO it deviates from the spirit.
Who cares what anybody thinks about any operating system? There are so many choices for Linux alone that pointing at one and saying "No!" is just noise. Just don't use it. But why post whining about why you don't use it? Do you think you're changing minds? For the record, I don't intend to use Omarchy either (I did try it for about 30 mins, meh..), I'm an MX Linux Xfce4 guy.

Bearblog is relatively diverse, frankly. It's Medium and Substack that have converged into the slop-nexus that nobody can even pretend to like.
