GDPR is seen as cumbersome and bureaucratic, and the EU commission and Germany in particular are looking to bypass or loosen the regulations in order to allow AI training.

It's sad to see steps in this direction, especially from the EU.

It truly seems like leadership in Western Civilization is gripped by the collective fever dream of its own decline, and are acting to hasten what they fear in a self fulfilling prophecy.
