Netanyahu claims ability to hack any iPhone and plant false evidence

Whereas some people in tech are proud to post selfies with him, the actual monster.

Whether this is true or not, I think someone making the claim is good news. People trust digital forensic evidence more than they should. Some FUD is a useful corrective.

If you're up to no good, buy an iPhone and badmouth Bibi on social media.

So... It's a link to a guy claiming he said those exact words? With no context? Or proof? Why no link to a reputable source, instead of some random dude?

The title is false too, it's "some guy claims"...

There's a video in the link of a 60 minutes interview with him. Maybe the video didn't load for you?

10m agoHN ↗

It did not. It would be nice to know where in this video, and it would be nice to know context.

Context means everything.

This comment links to a Nitter(Twitter alternative frontend) redirector version of the post that might have better luck loading the video: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49895060

Are you blocking Javascript or anything? Are you in a country or on a network where Twitter/X videos might get blocked automatically?

It's a video of Netanyahu directly saying this.

Is he claiming to plant false evidence, or just that smartphones are a great tool for social manipulation? I would believe both are the case, but it's just that "penetrate" could be ambiguous in the sense that getting propaganda in front of people's eyes could be considered a kind of penetration.

He's certainly right about his modus operandi: "If I'll say it often enough, enough people will believe it."

And I'd think he himself can't hack shit. :D
