Winamp will be reborn as a completely new player with its own premium subscription service

This does not whip the llama's ass.

Oh yay, another subscription service to not sign up for! They must have run out of 90's movies to reboot and now they've moved on to 90's desktop apps. Can't wait for a subscription-based IRC client, or maybe newsgroups! More streaming slop please!

Will it have a worse version of AVS that is out of sync with the music in the premium version?

For the first time in its near 30-year history, Winamp will be offering a premium subscription. Should the Deezer partnership prove successful, it'll be quite the rebound for a service that AOL had planned to shut down in 2013 before selling it off to Radionomy.

I'm lost here, since when is it that Winamp was a "service"?

But hey, enough pessimism. Curious to see what the combination of

a subscription model that's "fundamentally different" from today's streaming services

and

player with its own premium subscription service, with Deezer providing the white-label streaming technology and licensed catalog

will be.

Oh, and hijacking copy & paste the way Engadget does is so damn annoying, what a junk site (it appends a link to the article when you copy text from the article). Not a good fit for a site owned by a company calling itself "Static Media"!
