Prediction: we be sitting over here in the next oil crisis with Americans scrambling to replace our 20mpg Ford Bronco SUVs with small gasoline cars that aren’t for sale anymore, which we need for basic needs like getting to work and school. Meanwhile, China will be driving around on domestically produced electric vehicles powered by nuclear and solar, riding on shiny new metro lines to get to work and school, and visiting relatives using the world’s largest high speed rail network (electric).
This might sound like hyperbole but an oil crisis with lines at the pump has literally already happened in living memory, and China has more nuclear plants under construction (with domestically designed/produced reactors) than the rest of the world combined.
